UKPF Joins International Federation
12 May 2008: We were officially accepted as members of the F.I.P. (Federacion Internacional de Padel).
Calgary 2008, World Padel Championships
12 May 2008: Later the same day we were invited by Bill Stamile to enter Men’s & Women’s Teams into the 2008 World Padel Championships in Calgary from 23 to 30 August 2008.

The Padel Federation (United Kingdom) ‘s team at the opening ceremony
24 August 2008: UKPF recorded its first ever International victory, when Maria Del Carmen Marin Heppell & Liz Anne Wilson defeated the Portuguese pairing of Marta Lampreia & Ana Rita Ascenso 0-6, 6-1, 6-4 in a team match, which the UKPF lost 2-1. Later the same day, the UKPF Men’s Team recorded its first ever team victory, by beating Belgium 2-1. Fraser Wright & James Asensio Mathews beat Cedric Eggerickx 6-1, 6-1; Sacha Ruiz Dickson & Stefan King lost to Nicolas Sinia & Phillipe Werts 3-6, 1-6 & Brian Hill & Albert Sheriff beat Alexandre Pavy & Bruno Alvarez 6-2, 6-0.
25 August 2008: UKPF recorded it’s first ever open draw victory when Maria Heppell & Karen Dunroe beat the Canadian pairing of Hutchinson & McNamara 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 in the first round.

29 August 2008: UKPF Women’s Team recorded its first ever international team victory by beating the USA 3-0; Liz Wilson & Camilla Tom beat Mia Sierra & Sabina Turner 7-5, 7-5; Karen Dunroe & Maria Heppell beat Andrea Sierra 6-0, 6-2 and Emily Heppell & Nicola Fairbrother beat Jessica Braverman 6-0, 6-2.
At the conclusion of the Championships Brian Thompson, President of UKPF said “I look upon the 7 match wins in our first International Championship to be very creditable and I was encouraged that some players were significantly improving as we progressed in the tournament.”
